Misc Questions:
I have a question
not answered here:
I've sent
you an email but I haven't received any response!
Configuration Questions:
There are 2 ways to handle this:
- Disable the check which prevents usernames in the form of an email address: Advanced->Checks->Allow Usernames in the form of an email address.
- Have the software automatically append the username suffix for you - Connection->Misc->Dialup Username Suffix. If you set "Automatically Remove Username Suffix starting with: @" it won't matter if users still enter their full username. The added advantage of using this method is that if you use the ISPWizard Dialer, the user will never need to see your username suffix when they connect to the Internet.
The multiple networks feature of ISPWizard was added specifically to handle this case - just select Multiple Networks under the Dialup Numbers tab - you can then create a list of networks, each with their own specific settings as required and load a separate list of access numbers for each.
Program Functionality:
Yes - the latest version of ISPWizard works fully with Windows 7.A couple of very minor issues have been found and fixed, so we recommend that all customers update to the latest version.
Yes - Version 6.30 of ISPWizard is fully compatible with Windows Vista.
ISPWizard does not support these platforms, sorry.
Yes! The setup program has been translated into some languages, however, if you would like to translate it to a language that isn't currently supported, please contact us here.
If their system supports it, they can re-enable VBS scripting by removing and then reinstalling the "Windows Scripting Host" under the accessories section of the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel Applet. On other systems, they can use this program: RestoreVBS.exe
The program will only use the first icon in a file - if the desired icon isn't the first one, use an icon editing program to extract it and save it into its own .ico file.
Check that you have disabled news server configuration - an email address is required for posting to newsgroups.
Check that the Outlook Express account name option is either blank or will be converted to something unique - e.g. include %e which will be converted to the entered email address. Outlook Express uses the account name to differentiate between accounts and so no more than one account can have the same account name.
Dialer Questions
What's the difference between ISPWizard
and the ISPWizard Dialer?
Although there is some overlap in the features of both programs, they do have different purposes: The ISPWizard setup program is run once on the end users system to configure everything that is needed to access the Internet, such as installing required networking components and configuring email accounts in addition to creating the dialup networking connection. The ISPWizard Dialer on the other hand is installed onto the end users system - it runs whenever the user connects to your service and effectively acts as a front end to the normal Windows dialup networking interface. Because the Dialer is installed onto the users system, it allows for additional features that wouldn't otherwise be possible with a program that is only run once, such as showing your custom logo, automatic updates and the capability to show custom notifications to your end users. Most ISPs that purchase a license for ISPWizard also purchase a license for the ISPWizard Dialer, but you don't need to purchase a license for the ISPWizard Dialer if you don't need the extra features that it provides. Only a small number of customers purchase a license for the ISPWizard Dialer on it's own.
If you have a license for both ISPWizard and the Dialer, it's recommended that you just use the main ISPWizard program to create both the setup programs and dialer updates - this ensures that the settings between both programs match so that dialer updates work correctly.
The update feature allows the program to automatically update itself from your web site so that the user always has the latest settings, including the latest list of dialup access numbers.
Currently, once at the start of each connection - future versions may include an option to limit checks to only once per day/week/month.
Updates are stored on the website of the ISP, allowing the ISP full control over updates.
To use the update feature, you need to create a new .exe file with your latest settings and dialup number list and then upload it to the URL that you have specified in the software. When the dialer connects, it will check for a newer version of itself at the specified URL. If there is a new version, it will automatically download and install the update.
An example URL would be:
http://www.domain.com/download/dialer.exeThe URL needs to include the filename. The leading "http://" is optional, but the program does not currently support ftp or other protocols.
Yes, it will expire, but if you enable updates and register before your trial period expires, you can have the program update itself with the registered version and the user should never see an expired message.
Check that you have not changed the Connection Name in your configuration - changing the connection name will cause problems. Also, if you're using the multiple networks option, make sure that the network identifiers remain the same between updates - changing a network identifier will likely cause problems when the user attempts to connect. If you're still having problems getting updates to work correctly, please send us a message here describing exactly what problems you are having.
Please read the notification feature documentation here.
My users are reporting that the
ISPWizard Dialer keeps on popping up and it's annoying them - how can I
fix this?
The ISPWizard Dialer doesn't have the capability to just launch itself for no reason - under normal circumstances, the Dialer will make itself the default connection and whenever a program tries to access the Internet, Windows will automatically launch the default connection. One of the most common causes of this problem is an adware or spyware program that has managed to install itself on the users system and is trying to "phone home" which is then causing the Dialer to be launched - sometimes repeatedly. Users should check their system for adware and spyware using a program such as AdAware. Keep in mind that new adware/spyware programs are coming out all of the time, so even if a program like AdAware doesn't find anything, doesn't mean that the system is clear. As a final option, the user can set the Dialer so that it is no longer the default by clicking on the Options button and then by unchecking the option "Set as the default Internet connection"
Error Messages:
An exception error is given before
the setup screen appears.
If you are having this problem regularly,
you should try one or more of the following methods:
Some particular brands of OEM computers
have been reported to be more susceptible to this problem, possibly due
to lower quality floppy drives used in such systems. If you can improve
the signal quality on your disks using one or more of the above possible
solutions, you should be able to make it easier for such systems to read
your disks.
An error message was given during
setup.
No errors should be reported during the setup process however, if you do get an error, please report it as a bug to us here. Please provide as much information about the error as possible - the more info that you can give us, the quicker we will be able to fix the problem for you.
Licensing/Registration Questions:
No, you can download and try the program without providing any details to us. You only need to give us your support information if you want a free trial registration file which will allow you to send out setup programs to your customers without any nag screens for a limited time.
You can create setup programs and distribute them to your clients up until the trial runs out. After that, you need to register ISPWizard if you want to keep distributing it. After the trial period has expired, any setup programs created with the trial registration will display an expired warning message, but will be otherwise fully functional. If you would like more time to try the program, you can request another free trial.
The setup programs that you have created will continue to be fully functional, however, they will display a screen at startup indicating that the evaluation period has expired. If you want to continue using ISPWizard, you will need to either register the program or request another free trial if you haven't yet decided.
Count the number of users that you currently have (don't count expired/inactive users) Although you can consider future expansion of your user base, you are not required to do so and you are not required to purchase an upgrade if your user base expands beyond your initial registration size although you can if you wish.
It depends on the method that you have used to order and how you have decided to pay. Ordering online with a credit card is the fastest with orders usually being processed within 12 hours. Orders may be processed as quickly as within a few minutes, but please don't rely on this. Other payment methods take longer because funds are required to be cleared before a registration file will be sent out - checks often take a week or more to clear. If you haven't received your registration file within a reasonable period of time, please send us a message here. In your email, please include as many details as possible - when you ordered, how you ordered (e.g. online, by fax, etc) method of payment, any confirmation numbers, etc.
No! You will require a separate license for each organization.
There is no specific limit to the number of copies of the setup program that you can make as long as you adhere to the licensing requirements - the main requirement being that you do not create setup programs for use by other ISPs.
No - the license for ISPWizard strictly prohibits this unless you purchase a separate license for each ISP that will use the setup program for their clients.
If you haven't already done so, you will need to download and install the program from the download page. Save the registration file to disk and start ISPWizard, click Help, About and then Register - choose the file which you just saved, and that should be it! If you're having any problems, please contact us here.
Send us a message here and we can resend your registration file.
Most of the information shown on the help screen is stored in your ISPWizard registration file - please send us a message here with the details of what needs to be changed.
No - upgrades for ISPWizard are included with your initial license purchase. Future add ons may require an additional payment, however.
Simply download the latest version of the software from the download page and install it over the top of your old version - it will automatically pick up your existing registration information.
Fully licensed versions of the software don't expire.A full registration for ISPWizard includes an extended trial for the ISPWizard Dialer which does expire after a period of 3 months.
The software doesn't include any "phone home" type features to spy on your users, or the number of them - it is up to the ISP to ensure that the licensing conditions are met.
Misc Questions:
If you have a question not answered here: Send us a message here.
We endeavor to respond to all enquiries as quickly as possible. You should expect a reply from us within 24 hours at the most - if we're online at the time that you send your email, you'll usually get a response within a few minutes. If you haven't received a response within 24 hours, it probably indicates that there was a problem:If you have tried all of the above and still haven't received a response, please send us another email with an alternate email address that you can be contacted on - preferably on a different mail server. Unfortunately, it has happened several times that a customers mail server is blocking our replies for no obvious reason - in at least one case someone else had installed mail filtering software on the server without telling anyone else about it!
- Maybe your mail server has blocked our reply: Please check your mail/spam filters, etc to ensure that it's not blocking our reply to you.
- Maybe your reply address was invalid - this sometimes happens when users are using their main system to test the software: Check your reply address in your mail software and try sending your original email again.
- Maybe we missed responding to your email. Although we aim to respond to all emails and to also do so in a timely fashion, we are still human and may have accidentally missed responding to your email for some reason: Try sending your email again.
